Fairview Park's Gemini Center Pool Is Finally Back — Here's What It Means for the Community

After 18 years of mechanical and structural problems, a five-year shutdown, and a $14.1 million renovation, the Gemini Recreation Center's pool complex has officially reopened to the Fairview Park community.

What Happened

The Gemini Center's natatorium first opened back in 2008, but issues showed up almost immediately — roof leaks, pool leaks, inadequate HVAC, and ongoing structural problems that eventually forced the pools to close in 2021. After years of attempted fixes that never fully solved the problem, Fairview Park voters passed a levy in November 2023 to fund a full reconstruction. Following a $14.1 million renovation, the newly rebuilt pool complex celebrated its grand reopening on Friday, June 26th, with a three-day "Wave Fest" celebration featuring a ribbon-cutting, splash-in, and community events all weekend long.
